Torchlight: Infinite, the upcoming mobile edition in the popular ARPG series is taking closed beta signups and has a new trailer introducing us to what we can expect from the next chapter in the series.
The trailer is titled “Hope” and it gives us a look at the world, what’s going on, along with the characters and the main conflicts. The development this time around is being handled by XD Games, and will follow Torchlight II, extending continuity from there and sidestepping Torchlight III.
Now you can pre-register for the game on both Android and iOS and sign up for the closed beta. Well there’s no word on when we might see a release, heading to testing is a good sign of how far they are in development.
Torchlight: Infinite takes place 200 years after Torchlight II, with humans using Ember as their main source of power to operate their machines and magic. Yet Ember is corrupting slowly and causing some trouble, to put it mildly, which is of course where you come in. The cinematic trailer introduces us to a variety of characters who are the Torchlight. Some of these characters are introduced on the game's official site with more to come.
Info available is kind of sparse so far but we have some details on the skill system, which lets players choose how they play through the world. There are four categories of skills: active, support, passive, and triggered. Each active and support skill will have certain characteristics that complement each other and can be combined to form a new skill. One example includes using a support skill, Greater Multiple Projectiles with an active skill, Split Fireball. This lets your character shoot five fireballs at once. Essentially, they’re going for flexibility in trying to make the mobile experience be a fun successor.
