New World players whose gear disappeared after the most recent update, Fellowship & Fire, should have their items back again.
After the update, reports began flooding in from some who found that their characters had no gear when they logged in. More bug reports came in, and an investigation determined that the issue was limited mostly to those whose characters were dead when they logged out before the update went live.
Amazon quickly patched the issue to prevent any more cases from occurring and promised another fix to restore the missing gear was coming soon. While they didn’t provide an estimate at the time of when to expect it, it’s clear that this issue took priority. Yesterday, they granted 50,000 Marks of Fortune to those whose gear disappeared as compensation for the inconvenience, and today, they began restoring missing gear.
The gear restoration process didn't require a separate downtime but it did lock characters out while the team fixed the issue. Missing gear should be back in player storage at this point, with the update confirming that they had restored gear to everyone the bug had affected.
With an issue like this popping up with the patch that introduced the new seasonal model, it makes sense that Amazon would want to fix it as fast as possible. Fellowship & Fire is up and running, the new season has started, and now the team can focus on fixing any other issues that remain, as well as supporting the new update.
Today, there was also downtime to apply a different patch to fix an issue that was causing territory buffs to apply more than once. Before the patch, the team had temporarily disabled foods with four buff types: Weaponsmith, Jeweler, Engineer, and Arcanist. While the issue was addressed in during today’s downtime, those foods will stay disabled until further notice.

UPDATE: New World has officially re-enabled all food types.
