UPDATE April 30th: This has been refuted, as the source confused the previously announced Game of Thrones title from Netmarble with a new project.
A new report claims that Nexon is currently working on bringing a Game of Thrones MMORPG to life. A previous Game of Thrones MMORPG project, Seven Kingdoms, was canceled.
These are rumors originating from Redanian Intelligence (and reported by IGN) that claim that Nexon is adapting the IP in a game set in the North of Westeros. Winterfell and the Wall are included, since the North seems like the primary setting. Maybe the only one, because the info is sparse.
As far as a timeline, the info says that it should take place “somewhere around Game of Thrones Season 4/Season 5. Roose Bolton is already Warden of the North there and Jon Snow with Sam Tarly are still on The Wall”. It is possible that the scope could be bigger, but the source only speaks of the North being the featured Kingdom in the game. Mentioning those characters is important since players will meet them as part of the MMO.
The source also claims that This is an online-only title with a story campaign, and you can choose between a male protagonist and a female protagonist, new characters, with the one you don’t pick still involved somehow. Nexon’s MMO will feature a new voice cast and not feature any returning actors from the HBO series.
These are early rumors, and there isn’t much info. Since Game of Thrones ended in 2019, the legacy of the TV series is somewhat mixed, but it was still both a major hit and inspired lots of discussion with its cultural impact. If Nexon is indeed making a new MMORPG based onthe IP, maybe we'll see something revealed officially in time.
