Beginning today, Niantic will begin rolling out a big new (and much welcomed) addition to Pokemon Go. After closing Poke Gyms last week, they will reopen today with big new changes including the ability for players to house up to six of their Pokemon in friendly gyms.
In addition, players can "chip away" at enemy gyms and, even if not able to defeat it, can demotivate stored Pokemon and lowering the gym's CP. On the other hand, friendly gym members can raise motivation by feeding berries to the gym's inhabitants.
Gyms will also have the spinning image that will allow players to obtain some items similar to Poke Stops, something tailored for less populated areas.
Raids will be coming to Pokemon Go. Players will be able to team up with nearby folks to take on ultra powerful Pokemon. Events can occur "in the wild" or in gyms. Up to 20 players can take part and, if taken down in 5 minutes, turn it "capturable". Participants will need a raid pass that can either be purchased in the Shop or through a gym.
Before you can battle the Raid Boss, you’ll need a Raid Pass. You can get one free Raid Pass per day by visiting a Gym, but you can only hold one at a time. You can also get Premium Raid Passes from the in-game shop. Upon using your pass to join the battle, you and up to 20 other Trainers work together to defeat the Raid Boss. If you successfully defeat the Raid Boss within the five-minute time limit, you’ll have the chance to catch an extra powerful Pokémon of your own!
