Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore opened its doors yesterday, and had some extended maintenance today as the team addressed several reported issues. Some users reported getting double billed, while others had some major technical issues.

Today, Ethyrial went down for a maintenance period, with the announcement saying that “Quick update from the team: The servers will be down for maintenance for a while. We are setting up a new update to address previous issues, and it may take some time to get everything updated and running again”. The servers came back up with a notice that the team would “continue to monitor them for any irregularities”.

Over on the game’s subreddit, the issues mentioned ranged from error messages when trying to enter the game, darkness when entering the game and being unable to play, and other things like being double billed for their monthly subscriptions. After being charged for the month on May 1st, some were again charged on May 2nd. The Gellyberry team has been addressing those customers, saying that they would need to file support requests via Steam in order to get their refunds.

Among the known issues are people getting stuck in queues, stuck at character creation, crashes, and some are even reporting duplicate characters caused by the creation bug. While they promise to keep monitoring things and working on it,  some are wondering if there might be a wipe to fix things, but that is “speculation” right now.

When an MMORPG launches,we all expect some issues by now. The team has been working on the issues, but some were still claiming issues even after today’s maintenance. Still, this is a launch, and it seems like it will depend on how the independent team can help restore stable service, and reassure the community that they’re going to keep working to resolve these issues.

UPDATE: The team has promised refunds of any double/triple charges accidentally made via Steam.
