[Update] It Looks Like Daybreak Might Have Sold The PlanetSide IP For $5.9 Million

[Update 2:33pm PT/5:33pm ET] - A Daybreak rep responded to our request for comment on the reports, stating: "

"We have no further information or comments regarding EG7's earnings announcement. Should we have further news or updates to share about PlanetSide 2, we will post about them on the game's website and social channels."

The rep also confirmed that no other IP is being sold in response to our question of whether other Daybreak IP could be on the chopping block.

Original Story below:

PlanetSide looks to have been sold by its parent company, Daybreak Game Studios, for a cool $5.9 million if recent rumors and copyright listings prove accurate. This comes a day after EG7's Q4 2023 financials disclosed it had sold a "noncore IP," which sent internet sleuths hunting for the game that was seemingly on the chopping block.

This morning, we were tipped off that the "noncore IP" might be the PlanetSide franchise, with Redditors and more uncovering US Copyright listings that show the PlanetSide IP has indeed changed hands this year. The listings, which include PlanetSide, PlanetSide 2, PlanetSide Arena, PlanetSide Aftershock, and PlanetSide Core Combat, were seemingly sold off to a company called Bay Tree Tower Limited.

As to who Bay Tree Tower Limited is, we aren't sure, but it does look to be a private equity firm by the same name. However, we don't know whether this is the same company, or a related company to the firm, or whatnot. We're looking into clarification on this matter.

Daybreak and EG7, for their part, have not said anything other than the brief mention of a sale in yesterday's report. There has been no confirmation from the company as to whether or not PlanetSide has, for sure, been sold to another company - though if it has, the fact that no plans to shut down the game have also been announced makes it seem like it's going to continue. It's very likely that Daybreak will retain the rights to develop the MMOFPS while another company just owns the copyright, a way to infuse some cash into the company in what is projected to be a transition year for the Enad Global 7.

We've reached out to Daybreak and will update this story once we learn more, should they choose to respond.

Thanks for the tip, Pitk7.
