Super Evil Megacorp, makers Vainglory, announced this week that the tablet-centric MOBA is getting a card-based Skins system that will give players three tiers of alternate looks to swap out on their favorite heroes.

Cards appear post-game in the "Spoils of War" screen, and come in four rarities: common, rare, epic and legendary. (This update sees the release of the common and rare - epic and legendary will be available at a later date.) Players can combine the cards to unlock various hero skins, and each hero will eventually have three different looks.

For now, players can access Dark Parade Adagio, Prehistoric Glaive, Raver Girl Koshka, Bug Petal, Shogun Ringo and SAWborg.

Super Evil's COO and Executive Director, Kristian Segerstrale answered a few questions regarding the new Skins system:

MMORPG: Are skins for purchase, or only something unlocked by winning matches?

KS: Both! Players will randomly get cards after finishing matches, and cards can also be purchased with ICE, the premium in-game currency. It doesn’t matter if a player wins or loses a match, they can still get a card. It’s important to note that this update only includes common and rare cards. Epic and legendary cards will be added in future updates.

MMORPG: Will hero cards be tradeable among players?

KS: Cards are not tradeable between players. You can get cards after matches, whether you win or lose, or by unlocking with ICE. You can also easily check your card balance under “my cards” on your profile page.

MMORPG: Aside from the visual differences, how do skins differentiate heroes? - will the skins change gameplay?

KS: Skins only influence how the heroes look. The game’s balance is not influenced by the skins. We are very serious about not being a pay-to-win game, ever. So the skins are strictly visual and a way for players to show their commitment to the game and heroes.
