Finnish developer Harakka Studio's upcoming open-world RPG, the Peasant, shattered its Kickstarter goal earlier this month, and with just over 60 hours remaining, it seems to keep building.
Peasant is billed as an open-world RPG where you, the player, are not the chief hero of the story, as so many roleplaying games tend to place you. Peasant places you in the role of just that - a Peasant.
"There is no prophecy," Harakka Studio says on the RPG's Kickstarter page. "There is no ancient lineage. You have no destiny. You are just some guy trying to make your way through an epic and intense medieval fantasy world"
Instead, you're a peasant who has "grown tired of all the abuse from adventurers" and one where every decision matters. The world of Peasant is described as a "living, breathing" world, one where even cutting down too many trees can have consequences on your potential playthrough.
The project, which has just over 60 hours left to fund on Kickstarter as of the writing of this piece, set a modest goal of $32K as a way to get the project over the finish line and into early access, all while allowing Harakka to stay independent. Within 24 hours, that goal was met, with the subsequent weeks seeing more and more funding pouring into the project, to the point where it might even quadruple its funding goal by the time the Kickstarter ends on August 2nd. While no official launch date was given, the Kickstarter does mention that the funding is set to help get the team through the "next six months of development," after which will be a launch into Early Access. It'll be interesting to see where the team takes it from here, especially now that they've plenty of stretch goals to incorporate into the finished project.
