Ubisoft’s free-to-play arena shooter XDefiant now has a release date: May 21. Shared on Twitter/X via the official XDefiant account, the game will launch on with a six week pre-season on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Ubisoft Connect on PC. The Steam and Epic Games Store storefronts were not mentioned in the announcement.
XDefiant is Ubisoft’s answer to Call of Duty players looking for a more “classic” CoD experience, with the absence of skill-based matchmaking in casual playlists as something seen to be particularly attractive to a subset of CoD fans.

The game features five factions from Ubisoft’s various properties, including the Cleaners (The Division), Echelon (Splinter Cell), Libertad (Far Cry 6), Phantoms (Ghost Recon Phantoms), and Dedsec (Watch Dogs 2). The first four factions will be available to all free of charge, but Dedsec will either need to be unlocked through play or purchased.
As far as content goes, the pre-season will have 14 maps, five game modes, and 24 weapons available for play. Most of the available game modes will be playable in a 6v6 configuration, though a 4v4 ranked ‘practice’ playlist will be available preceding the launch of the official ranked mode in Season 1.
