After years of contact with the hostile alien forces and over two and a half years of war, the Thargoid threat has finally been eliminated in Elite Dangerous’s known universe. As reported by the game’s in-universe Galnet news network, the now-destroyed Titan Cocijo was the last Thargoid “Titan” mothership threatening humanity.

This massive, historic in-game event came as the game celebrated its tenth anniversary.

The last stand against the final mega-ship started on December 12 after pilots helped to take out the support systems, leaving the Thargoids vulnerable to more direct attack. Players took on the ship for several days straight through a final 24 hours of assault, when the heating systems on the ship were jammed.

According to the Galnet article, the damage is nearly immeasurable, with billions of in-universe denizens still homeless in temporary shelters. Now, the efforts in the aftermath will turn towards rebuilding where possible, including repairing offline ports in the Sol system where the battle took place.

The Thargoid war started well over two years ago, though first contact was made by a player in 2017. Essentially all contact with the Thargoids, including that initial contact, has been hostile on their behalf since their discovery. At one point, pro-peace negotiators were sent to discuss with the Thargoids amidst the war, but they were killed in the mission, forcing the war to continue. In the midst of tensions, one of our own players briefly recounted his pessimism about the upcoming possibility of another war with the alien race as he also recounted Elite Dangerous’s massive exploration opportunities.

The team behind the game has also released an epilogue video of sorts, produced in part with Commanders from fan channel The Buur Pit. The video urges players to help the rebuilding efforts and explore the universe further than ever, claiming that “we owe it to all who came before.”
