The mobile-friendly ARPG Torchlight Infinite unveiled its upcoming additions and changes for its new season, “Arcana,” in a preview stream now up on YouTube, with accompanying patch notes posted after.
The new seasonal mechanic is a series of rooms where Tarot Cards are activated, offering unique mechanics linked to traditional Major Arcana cards. As players get further in, cards can be stacked, offering more and more difficult mechanics with increasingly better rewards. The goal is to get through a board game-like progression, with cards offering different dice rolls to progress quicker through or give more rewards.
To give players more multiplayer content, there’s also the new co-op City Defense mode. Players can join friends to defend an Energy Crystal through 15 waves of increasingly difficult enemies, just like a classic tower defense game. The Boss Conquest and Supreme Showdown also return as endgame content this season with fresh challenges.
The new Destiny system will change how Pactspirits work, letting players insert Destinies into Pactspirit talent nodes to alter how effects work in battle. Destinies will work on all levels of Pactspirits, so even beginner players will be able to make full use. More specifically, Fate Destinies are attribute alterations, and Kismets alter specific mechanics for the Pactspirits.
A new Hero Trait called Vigilant Breeze is introduced with Iris; this Trait lets players control Spirits and unlock new abilities and Ultimate skills. It also allows for some role flexibility depending on playstyle, offering chances to boost DPS, stun enemies, or grant health and Regeneration to those Spirits.
As always, there are also new Pactspirits, the Sprite of Silent Vale that boost Destiny drop chances and the Jestress who increases Minion DPS, especially for Spirit Magus. The team also offers more chances to pick up Legendary Pactspirits throughout the season.
There are also a ton of quality of life changes coming this season, most notably with an exchange option to give 300 Flame Sand for 1 Flame Elementium. The primary patch notes are out on the website for those looking to see what’s coming.
Arcana drops on January 9th for all the platforms it’s on, including Android, iOS and Steam.
