After nearly 30 years, Cipsoft is adding a new vocation to Tibia, the Monk, and the team has a new gameplay video, as well as more details on what to expect as playtesting begins tomorrow.

In making the decision to add a new playable class for the first time ever, their goal was to make sure that the Monk was well integrated into the existing content,  and that the release was a full effort. From the details they’ve revealed so far, this is a full and rounded release. The Monk has four new mechanics– Mantra, Harmony, Elemental Bond, and Virtue– along with 25 new  attack, support, and healing spells. The release will also come with over 70 new items, including gear, weapons, armor, and amulets, and more items. There's a brand new area on the way, blue Valley,  a new exclusive class Quest, “The Three-fold Path”,  new achievements, and more.

The devs have adjusted a number of quests and NPC interactions and other experiences in Tibia so that the Monk fits into the decades of content. There won't be any special bonus XP or any way to convert a character to the new class. Nope, this is a new vocation meant to be played from the ground up, and they're looking for people to discover the class with no rush:

“We want the monk to naturally grow into its role and are fine with the new vocation not being part of the endgame on the first day, in the first week, or even in the first month.” Cipsoft’s goals are balanced. They want the Monk to be appealing and accessible to new players and veteran players, to contribute to a group without feeling mandatory to have.

Tomorrow, the first of three planned playtests begins, with each focused on a specific feedback goal. The first phase is about early stage gameplay, lasting from February 25th-28th. They’re aiming for March 4th-7th for the second test, focused on mid to high level content. The third test is currently planned for March 18th-25th and will focus on cross-vocation play and open PvP. More tests could be scheduled if needed.
