Throne and Liberty has been live in Korea for several months now, with a Western release from Amazon Games set for this year. The team has had a shakeup, with the departure of its producer, while NCSoft is floating the idea of a mobile version again, among other options.
According to a report from Korean outlet MTN (as shared over on Reddit), former producer Jong-ok Ahn resigned that role, replaced by Moon-young Choi. The Throne and Liberty team’s restructuring is, according to the source, intended to revive the game’s fortunes a bit, to the Western release and beyond. Talk of a mobile edition, and cross-platform content, has also bubbled up again.
Amazon is still slated to publish the game sometime this year, and the NCSoft team is looking at other East Asian markets, like Taiwan. The report talks about initial disappointment with the game’s Korean launch, including performance short of NCSoft’s expectations, along with some of the criticisms over botting and service that many MMOs receive.
The MTN report (via Google Translate) also quotes an NCSoft official, who says “I know that 'TL' will also be produced as a mobile version. First, we will seek a rebound through domestic service and overseas expansion, and the roadmap is to expand the platform to mobile like 'Lost Ark'.”
While talk of a mobile version has come up again, nothing is being confirmed just yet. Amazon Games team members are said to be visiting the Throne and Liberty team to hammer out their collaboration roadmap towards Western release this year. As for mobile, this is just one of the options they’re considering to try to solidify a place of longevity once the international release is out.
