After announcing a September release last month, Throne and Liberty, the upcoming MMORPG by NCSoft and Amazon Games, is previewing some of its core ongoing gameplay activities. This includes a massive siege PvP mode, a few familiar MMORPG gameplay modes, and a solo boss rush—which also has a hardcore mode for those looking for a challenge.
First is the Castle Siege, the massive PvP mode in which guilds from throughout the game compete for the throne of Stoneguard Castle; the mode’s been shown off previously by players from previous playtests.
“The current reigning guild will close gates, bolster defenses, and relentlessly fight to stop those brave, or foolish, enough to seize control,” the description read. “You’ll also need to contend with hundreds of other guilds vying for the throne. Dodge raining arrows, cascading spells, and more while laying siege in numerous ways based on your playstyle.”
The gamestyles suggested are brute force as you beat through massive golems, stealth through the sewers, and literally just “hitch[ing] a ride on a giant flying whale to bypass the castle’s defenses” or using the chaos of a siege as a general distraction. Those all seem to check out in a PvP mode.
Before players dive into PvP, the game suggests you warm yourself up with some classic MMORPG co-op content. The “Dimensional Circle,” for example, is the instanced dungeon series that lets you level up (and, further, customize) your character, or you can partake in good ol’ Guild Raids with allies to beat up more powerful bosses. If your and your friends feel competitive, you can also wander into open-world dungeons and try to take on those challenges before others claim prizes.
Finally, for those looking to sharpen their skills, Throne and Liberty offers Taedal’s Tower. The solo mode sounds akin to a “boss rush,” as players take on “challenging bosses.”
“The experience and rewards gained from each floor, plus increasingly complex boss mechanics, will prepare you for even the most formidable adversaries throughout Solisium. Learn their tactics, discover new strategies, and devise new techniques that will help you thrive in higher stakes activities.”
It also has a “hardcore” mode of sorts called “The Gate of Infinity,” which offers “more difficult versions of those same lethal enemies.” This version will not only give greater rewards, but also feature a leaderboard system.
For those interested in trying these out and getting a hang of it before the official September release, the post also mentions an Open Beta test taking place July 18-23 on Playstation 5, Xbox, and PC.
