The 28th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards in Las Vegas brought together studios from around the world for an evening dedicated to their outstanding achievements in the industry. Hosted by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), the longstanding event honored developers and studios across 23 categories this year.
This year saw three games rise to the top with the most awards given to Astro Bot from Team ASOBI. Astro Bot won Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Animation, and Outstanding Technical Achievement.
Meanwhile, HELLDIVERS 2 from Arrowhead Game Studios took home four awards, including Action Game of the Year and Online Game of the Year.
Solo developer LocalThunk also made a strong showing with Balatro, winning Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement for an Independent Game, and Mobile Game of the Year.
These three games took home account for more than half of the awards. Beyond celebrating the best games of the year, the event also recognized industry pioneers. Nintendo veteran Don James received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his long-standing contributions, while Insomniac Games’ Ted Price was honored with the Hall of Fame Award for his leadership and advocacy in game development.
