It’s been around six months since we reported that CD Project would finally be releasing mod tools for The Witcher 3, but that day is now nearly upon us. In a new update shared to steam, CDPR announced that The Witcher 3 REDkit will be released on May 21.

The mod editor will be free to all players and players who are eager to get started can actually sign up for the REDkit’s playtest, though no details were provided on when and how many users will be allowed to gain access to the kit ahead of its full release in just two weeks. Signing up is simple: just request access on the The Witcher 3 REDkit’s Steam page. For those who would rather wait for the full release, the REDKit can also be wishlisted.

It’s better late than never, but players have been waiting over eight years at this point for CDPR to drop an official mod editor for The Witcher 3. That certainly hasn’t stopped the community from creating mods for the game, but it’ll be interesting to see what sorts of new mods are possible once the official tools are out later this month.

The Witcher 3 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms.
