The latest developer blog on the Guild Wars 2 site deals with how gliding will manifest itself in Central Tyria. Players can expect to be able to glide from any high point once the basic gliding mastery is out of the way. Further, those players who have learned more advanced gliding masteries will be able to utilize them as well.
For the most part, Central Tyria will be a glider's paradise, though there is a caveat to the newfound ability:
- some no-fly zones are implemented in places where there are gameplay reasons to have it -- for instance at the end of a jumping puzzle. Players will be warned to turn back or risk having the glider collapse
- Central Tyria will not feature some of the things that make it more robust in Heart of Thorns -- for instance there will be no updrafts, verticality or ley lines. While a few small changes have been implemented, Central Tyria will remain largely what it was and has been since launch.
