The Sounds of 'Spice Blow' Explosions Teased for Dune Awakening

It seems that spice may literally blow up in your face, as a new Dune Awakening developer video has teased explosions of Spice. 

In this “Iconic Sounds” video, a developer describes the initial sound as “the planet giving in with a moan,” followed by thunderous explosions that make the source of the ruckus obvious.

In the original Dune books, these were explained as pressure building up in “pre-spice” deposits, causing an explosion, though it seems Dune: Awakening testers have leaked on the wiki that it happens when pre-spice makes contact with water. These didn’t make it into the movies (yet, if ever). 

However, it seems the Dune: Awakening developers have made it a key part of gameplay, with purple mushroom clouds urging players to race to these spots to find the massive deposits of spice. Given spice is the most valuable resource in the world of Dune—and a player tool in Dune: Awakening—this will likely have the effect of player friction that the developers intended in the game's full release this May.
