The Secret Wilds is Sea of Thieves' Next Adventure, and Rare Will Improve PvP Matchmaking

A new Adventure will begin this week in Sea of Thieves, and in a new video, the team details PvP matchmaking changes and other improvements on the way.

The Secret Wilds will go live on January 19th, and Tasha's curse continues, so there's more to explore, including a way to possibly uncover some of Captain Briggsey’s secrets after all. Maybe there’s an answer there in The Wilds.

When Season 8 began, a new chapter for Sea of Thieves, adding in PvP via ship battles for the first time, the response was positive.  As it goes sometimes, too much of a good thing can be a little overwhelming, at least when it comes to queue times. Long queue times are not unfamiliar to most MMO players, but this feature launched with really long queue times.

How this came about was affected by the way Sea of Thieves works, as well as the number of players who decided to support different factions in each region. Ultimately, last month, the team promised that there would be improvements coming soon, and now we know just what to expect first up.

The first change to improve the number of players available to fight against is to now allow players who belong to the same faction to battle. This should increase the number of available battles and shorten queue times. They're also talking about “cross stamp migration”. Each server is divided into what the team calls stamps, and previously all players you could matchmake with had to be on the same stamp as you. This will change. The number of Arenas available for PVP battles is being boosted from six up to 50.

Some other changes should help The overall experience. An exploit that was letting players target ships without actually being part of the battle themselves, won't be a problem anymore. There are also going to be changes in penalties, including less Reputation loss for losing. And a number of other changes.

For more details, head to Sea of Thieves.
