The Lord of the Rings Online's next expansion, Legacy of Morgoth, is live today, bringing players even further into the south of Middle-earth, exploring the reaches of Harad further.

The 10th expansion for the 17-year-old MMORPG, LotRO's Legacy of Morgoth brings four new zones, over 350 quests, the new Elf Avatar update, and more. The zones explore Near Harad, taking players into regions of the Lord of the Rings world that we've never really seen on screen before, which is one of the enduring qualities of this MMO.

Via the official website:

"Venture into the untamed wilds of Near Harad, where ancient secrets lurk beneath sun-scorched sands and treacherous marshlands! Feel the thrill of discovery as you race against time, deciphering cryptic maps and forging unlikely alliances. In this land of hidden perils and breathtaking vistas, your choices will shape the fate of Middle-earth."

What isn't coming with The Lord of the Rings Online: Legacy of Morgoth is a level cap increase. Last increased with Corsairs of Umbar, the level cap is sticking at 150 for this expansion.

To celebrate the launch, Standing Stone Games released a new launch trailer highlighting the new zones, complete with voice-over (which is a rarity for this MMO), and patch notes are live on the LotRO website, touching on the new items coming with today's update, including information on the Reputation Enhancements for VIP players, Baubles, as well as notes on class and balance changes with Legacy of Morgoth. While the quests and instances are available today, the upcoming Raid will be launched at a later date.

Are you planning on jumping into LotRO today to check out the new region? Let us know in the comments below.
