A reminder that at 12pm Eastern, if you’re a VIP subscriber for The Lord of the Rings Online, you can log on to access character creation on the new 64-bit servers and secure up to three names. This is the start of the 64-bit server opening and roll-out process, which they recently detailed, but now it’s here.
What today's opening accomplishes is mostly being able to secure names, worth a lot on new servers in an older game like this. You can create three random characters or take your time with them. Many will likely be creating placeholders so that their names are locked in renaming their existing characters when they transfer them over to the new servers. Not only can this process secure your existing names in a new server, but also maybe give you a shot at something you were never able to get before.
Tomorrow, the 64-bit serve transfers open to all players at 12 noon ET, and on Wednesday, the 64-bit servers formally open. The team will continue free transfers from 32-bit to 64-bit worlds through the end of August. You can also transfer between the new 64-bit servers on a rotating basis through the end of April, just to make sure you find exactly the right home and can find friends and organize your Fellowship.
There’s more to know if you are planning to transfer your characters from one server to another, and the Standing Stone Games team has been getting us all ready for the process. If you still have some questions though, the main info page probably has what you need.
