The Lord of the Rings Online is taking players to the southern edge of the Middle-earth map today as Corsairs of Umbar is now live on the game servers. The latest expansion continues the story of the epic MMORPG and takes players to a location never before seen in Tolkien-based media.
Corsairs of Umbar crosses into Harad, the southern reaches of Middle-earth south of Gondor, a place Aragorn himself describes as somewhere that the "stars are strange." Whether or not the Standing Stone Games team was able to incorporate the new sky (though I wouldn't put it past them), Umbar is an exciting place to go as a Tolkien nerd myself.
The expansion sees a level cap increase to 150, 350 new quests across the new zones, including the new City of the Corsairs along the coast of the Bay of Belfalas. LotRO's latest expansion also drops the latest class, the Mariner, inspired by the legendary Middle-earth hero, Earendil.
You can check out the full Update 38 patch notes on the Lord of the Rings Online website. If you haven't caught it, make sure to read up on how this expansion was built with our Building an Expansion interview series with the LotRO team - the final article of the series should be live later today (I hope!).
