The Lord of the Rings Online Opens Character Transfers From Anor To Non-Legendary Severs

Listening to feedback

Earlier this week, Lord of the Rings Online players learned that the legendary server, Ithil, would be coming to a close. One interesting bit of info from the closure was that characters on the legendary server could be transfered to any server, not just the other legendary one, Anor. It seems players liked that idea and Standing Stone Games agrees, as it has just now opened transfers off Anor too.

Ithil, the second legendary server to be spun up a few years ago when the population on Anor was causing issues logging into the server, is being closed on June 15th due to low population. SSG is offering free transfers to Ithil players moving their toons off the server onto any of the LotRO servers themselves.

Today, Jerry "Cordovan" Snook took to the LotRO forums to announce that transfers were open for those looking to migrate from Anor to the regular servers as well.

"We have been listening to your feedback, and we are happy to announce that world character and shared item transfers are now available from Anor to any of the non-Legendary game worlds. Please note that once characters or shared items are transferred from Anor it is NOT possible to transfer those characters or shared items back to Anor. Additionally, players can transfer from Anor to either the U.S. or European game worlds without issue. Once a character has arrived on a U.S. or European destination game world, the technical restriction will once again apply and will prevent that character from transferring between U.S. and European game worlds."

It's important to note in the statement that once you make your decision on either a US or European server, you're stuck in the region thanks to the technical restriction on the character. So choose your game world region wisely. Also missing is the indication that this is a free service. While it would make sense that the LotRO team would charge their usual transfer fee since Anor isn't closing, coming so close to the Ithil transfers it does bear questioning. However, at this time it doesn't seem to be free like the Ithil transfers are - because again, Ithil is closing forever.

Cordovan addressed the Ithil closure on today's Cord of the Rings livestream, talking about the low population, as well as the original purpose of its opening to begin with. Cordovan stressed to players that the free transfers on Ithil are happening through the end of the year, but because the servers will likely receive a "database wipe" after the year is up, any player who doesn't transfer will lose their characters and shared items forever.
