Following a leak on the PlayStation Network Friday afternoon, Naughty Dog officially confirmed that The Last of Us Part II Remastered would be coming to the PlayStation 5.
The remaster includes visual upgrades (as one would expect) as well as additional content. On the visuals front, players can look forward to 4K Fidelity mode, 1440P upscaled to 4K Performance Mode, and an unlocked framerate option for VRR supported TVs, improved textures and Level-of-Detail distances, improved shadows, better loading times, and more.

The content additions are surprisingly meaty, too. No Return, a roguelike survival mode with numerous playable characters to play, is one major addition coming to the game. Players will select and spec out their character and progress through randomized encounters, earning new rewards with each run, including new skins and characters to play. No Return will also feature the ability to customize runs and even competition on a global leaderboard.
Guitar Free Play mode is being included for the more musically inclined players out there. This mode will allow players to play a number of unlockable instruments, use audio FX pedals to modulate performances, and even play different characters in a variety of in-game locations to customize their sets.
Lastly, TLOU2 Remastered will add Lost Levels, previously cut (and unfinished) content intended to provide new experiences for players looking to dig deeper into the world of TLOU2. This content will even feature developer commentary to add context to the experience.
Naughty Dog is also adding director’s commentary to key cutscenes in the main campaign. The commentary track will include director Neil Druckmann, narrative lead Halley Gross, and actors Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Bailey.
Pre-orders for The Last of Us Part II Remastered (and Remastered W.L.F. Edition) begin December 5 with the game’s full release set for January 19, 2024.
