Helldivers 2’s latest Major Order gave players a choice: respond to a distress call to rescue survivors located in ‘Super Citizen Anne’s Hospital for Very Sick Children’ or secure an explosives repository held by the Automatons on Marfark.
Save the children or secure the mines is how it was put. The latter of which would reward the community with a new Stratagem: MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines.
In a small win for actual humanity, gamers in the Helldivers 2 community came together to rescue the fictional children, knowingly foregoing the reward of a new Stratagem.
Arrowhead Game Studios responded to the heart warming outcome by doing its own part to save the children by donating to Save the Children. The donation amounted to $4,311, which corresponds to the number of children saved in the operation.
We also have a special message to share with you:"Dear Helldivers,Thank you so much for saving us. They told us you made a lot of sacrifices (mines/lives) to help us. We'll always be grateful. Now, we can grow up to become Helldivers too. With Liberty,The Very Sick Children… pic.twitter.com/ZuiI4OQUaP

In a twist of events, Joel, the game’s mysterious game master, promised that the mines would still be awarded if players manage to liberate Markfark. It’s unlikely, however, as a new Major Order has already been issued and players have already shifted their focus to the new mission, which tasks Helldivers with using the new Hive Breaker Drill to cleanse Terminid nurseries on a number of planets.
Helldivers 2 is available now on the PC and PlayStation 5.
