It's that time again, counting down the days until The Game Awards, now that the nominees have been announced.
The event, which will be broadcast this year on December 12th at 7:30 p.m. eastern, has a few standout nominees. Game of the Year contenders include Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Those games also got Best Game Direction nominations, and were also among the nominees for art direction.

The category of Best Ongoing Game, of particular interest to us over here, will be a competition between Destiny 2, Diablo 4, Final Fantasy XIV, Fortnite, and Helldivers 2. Best Multiplayer will be crowned from Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Helldivers 2, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, Tekken 8, and Super Mario Party Jamboree.
Best Mobile Game nominees include AFK Journey, open world RPG Wuthering Waves, Pokémon TCG Pocket, and Zenless Zone Zero.
Other notable nominations include best RPG, with Dragon’s Dogma 2, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio competing–and Best Action game, which will be chosen from Black Myth: Wukong, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Helldivers 2, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, and Stellar Blade.
Various other categories will crown content creators and innovation in accessibility, best family game, sports game, and there's even a category for best game adaptation to a different medium. Those nominees, in a pretty solid group, are: Arcane Fallout, Knuckles, Like a Dragon: Yakuza, and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
