At The Game Awards this evening, Funcom and Shiro Games announced the title of the upcoming Dune-based strategy game in the works. Dune: Spice Wars is a 4X RTS set in Frank Herbert's universe and is scheduled to hit early access sometime next year on PC.
Dune: Spice Wars will feature multiple factions, as well as multiple ways to win - which is of course controlling the desert planet and the flow of Spice on Arrakis.
Via the press release from Funcom this evening:
"Dune: Spice Wars will have several playable factions, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, as well as multiple ways to achieve your ultimate goal – control of the spice on Arrakis. You can deploy agents to sabotage, assassinate and spy on your opponents, use political means to influence the Landsraad and pass beneficial resolutions, amass incredible wealth and simply overwhelm the other houses through economic and technological supremacy, or you can opt for open war.
During early access, the developers will actively seek feedback from the community to continuously improve and expand the game. For more information, see the attached game fact sheet and Q&A."
During The Game Awards this evening, the teams announced the Dune-based game in a trailer, which can be seen below. We should stress, Dune: Spice Wars is being published by Funcom and is not the currently-in-development open-world survival game in the works by Funcom and, most recently announced, NUKKLEAR.
