After announcing that the promised offline mode was coming in the short-term, along with improvements like the ability to build from storage, Nightingale’s latest developer update confirms that 0.3 is coming this week and shares more details on everything in the update.
Inflexion CEO Aaryn Flynn says in the video that, “At Inflexion, Early Access is a marathon and not a sprint,” he said, while emphasizing the impact the community has had so far.
A major requested feature, offline mode is something that the team says they had in mind but they didn't understand how important it would be for the community right off the bat. So, after a lot of work, the team is making it a reality, but they're calling this version one, because there are still improvements that need to be made and a few things that won’t initially work.
When offline mode hits, you will need to start a brand new character to use it, And that character can't be transferred online later. You also can't transfer an existing online character to offline mode yet, but that is something they are working on. Offline mode will also feature some changes, since you won't be able to use multiplayer features or party with others, you'll still get the creatures and the puzzles, but for offline players they will be balanced for solo play.
Steam Deck won’t support offline mode at launch, but they will make that happen in a future update. Another thing that will not work in offline mode at the start is the use of mods. They mentioned that they're not ready to support mods in offline mode yet, but we can probably expect something in the future. They won’t crack down on anyone attempting to mod their offline game though.
The update this week will also bring the ability to build from storage, which you'll have to enable so you don't accidentally use some high-tier items. The new Bound Marksman can aime at you from extended range. Creatures will also come in tiered variants, with the harder ones dropping higher-tier loot. Overall, this update is significant, and still early.
