The first-ever Dungeons & Dragons virtual reality game is on the way, thanks to a new deal announced by Resolution Games and Wizards of the Coast.
This VR collaboration comes with praise from Hasbro, Wizards of the Coast’s parent company, for Resolution Games. The company is behind the TTRPG-style adventure Demeo, which was released back in 2021 to acclaim and attention for blending dungeon exploration with elements like turn-based tactics, and to just be fun to play with friends. (We reviewed Demeo here) and a second game, Demeo Battles, are both playable on PC and in VR, with the original also on PlayStation 5 and PSVR 2.
Given their history, it makes sense that their experience would make them an appropriate partner to develop Dungeons and Dragons for the first time in VR. Founder and CEO Tommy Palm, in a press release, talks about just why DnD has such an appeal, “DUNGEONS & DRAGONS offers one of the richest fantasy worlds that has ever been created, and it only gets bigger with every new sourcebook and adventure. We’re beyond humbled to have the opportunity to work with such an incredible IP and look forward to sharing the first details of this new project in the future”, he says.
“They are an ideal partner to bring a new DUNGEONS & DRAGONS video game to life in VR and beyond,” Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast’s Eugene Evans added.
There are no details about what to expect just yet, but now that word is out that a VR D&D game is happening, we can expect more info to come later.
For now, we can have fun imagining just what we’d like to see in such a collaboration.
