Funcom continues to ramp up reveals and more for Dune: Awakening, announcing a new Dune: Awakening Direct series, with the first offering new trailers and footage next week.
Naturally, with the Dune: Part Two film set to release this week, they’re capitalizing on all of the discussions around Dune that are happening. So of course it makes sense to try and tempt some potential new Arrakis residents with the new survival game that could make some fantasies come true. Well, if your fantasies are the harsh life, with the sun beating down on you, collecting water droplets, traveling in shadows, and facing a host of dangers, including huge sandworms.
The open world survival MMO has been getting a series of brief peeks in recent weeks, and it seems that now is the time (with a promised playtest that should be happening after applicants were recently invited), to start releasing some more details.
The first Dune: Awakening Direct will take place on March 4th over on Funcom’s Twitch and YouTube channels starting at 18:00 CET/ 12PM ET. The first in a series, hosted by Soe Gschwind and will debut the game’s first trailer and a new feature, “Creating Worlds, from Book to Film to Game”.
In the trailer, they promise a taste of all things survival in Arrakis, including flying across the open dunes in an ornithopter, building shelter, surviving the harsh environments, and those sandworms. The adaptation featurette will have interviews with the new Dune films’ cinematographer, Greig Fraser and Funcom’s creative director, Joel Bylos talking about how bringing Dune to life as an adaptation to film and to a survival MMO.
