The First Descendant is Nexon’s upcoming co-op shooter, and the team released a new blog on UI and updates they’ve made. One important reason for the new details: they got a 3 out of 5 UI review in their Steam beta.
A 3 out of 5 not a terrible score, but it isn't a good one either, and the team took that as they had much room for improvement. This is one of the ways that beta is still a useful tool in development. Particularly for a co-op shooter, where you need to rely on your teammates and always be aware of what's going on around you, if that's the foundation you're starting from, it's definitely not good enough.
So, they got to work. One of the new UI features they added is a loadout menu. This has three sections, The Descendant’s Module loadout, weapon module loadout, and integrated presets. The presets can be used to set up your character, weapons, and modules, but you'll need to be out of conflict and at the field camp or in Albion in order to do that. but the other menus you'll have access to when you need to adjust your kit.
They have also overhauled the entire core menu, to make things more convenient, to add extra features and make things clearer. The top menu now has both an inventory section and a map centered menu. The inventory screen is clearer and includes functionality for characters and equipment. For maps, the team initially didn't allow dragging the mouse for map control because they wanted to have uniform controls with gamepads, but if you are playing a shooter on pc, you want a quick intuitive map control, so now this is available. They're also adjusting controller map movement as well.
Nexon optimized the equipment information menus to include clearer descriptions and more intuitive tooltips, and even brought out the Module enhancement screen to be easier to access, with clear descriptions. Finally, reward info has also been tweaked for clarity. A library function can help you farm items, check on consumables, and find out more info on modules and if you have any questions.
The First Descendant team also answers some community questions on everything from rewards, promises a clan system, and potentially adding alliances for easier matchmaking.
