The Elder Scrolls Online will mark its 10th anniversary in 2024, and ZeniMax Online Studios’Creative Director Matt Firor has shared a letter reflecting on a big 2023 and what’s ahead in 2024.

In 2023, there were several goals the studio held as priorities. Once, they aimed to stabilize the service after a series of connection and stability issues affecting the servers affected the availability of ESO for many on different platforms. In 2023, they spent much time refreshing all of the game servers and updating hardware. There’s more to come, more specifically “non player-facing hardware swaps”, but Firor points to the refresh as significant, leading to an overall more stable experience, as well as fewer issues with updates. Sometimes this meant longer downtimes, but it seems the game is in better shape. When The Elder Scrolls Online hit the Epic Games Store in July, they hit their highest monthly peak since 2015.

A big 2023 also means reflecting on Necrom and the arrival of the Infinite Archive. Necrom finishes the year as the game’s highest-rated Chapter. With the well-received big release behind them, this letter also confirms that more is to come”

“Adding to the Elder Scrolls lore on Daedric realms is something we take great pride in, and I think we nailed the combination of obsession with knowledge and creepy visuals that are the hallmark of Hermaeus Mora. And for the first time in a few years, the story will continue in 2024, as the 2023 story (no spoilers here!) ended on a cliffhanger.”

There will be a global reveal event in January, with more info and a date for the show to come, but they say “we are excited to continue the story from last year but in a different part of Tamriel”. Hmm.

Infinite Archive is also inspiring more types of challenging , replayable, different experiences that can live alongside the big storytelling updates and quests that mark The Elder Scrolls Online.

ESO came out on April 4, 2014, so the 10th anniversary of the PC/Mac launch is coming. Since the console launch happened in June 2015, they are planning a  10th anniversary that will last for more than a year. Expect events, including in-person events, special retrospectives and more surprises they will share later.
