The Elder Scrolls Online is giving players a chance to explore Tamriel with friends without any strings attached, hosting a free play event now through April 17th.

From now through April 17th, players can jump into The Elder Scrolls Online for free across PC, Mac, Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While there is a ton to explore, the free play event only covers the base ESO game, as well as the four initial classes from the MMO, and its PvP modes.

ESO players with brand-new accounts will also be given 500 Crowns to use in the in-game shop, while existing players who have participated in a free play event before will be able to jump back in and continue from last time.

For those players who want to continue their journey, ESO is on sale right now as well, specifically the most recent High Isle chapter, which is currently 67% (almost nice) off across platforms. The Standard Edition meanwhile is "up to 70% off" across the various platforms.

The Free Play event coincides with a push for the upcoming Necrom chapter. Next week, ZeniMax Online Studios is hosting a community event in Las Vegas, which will include one of the first previews of Necrom itself. The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom sees a return to Morrowind for this year's chapter story, bringing players to the Telvanni Peninsula. In addition to the story that takes place in a region not seen since The Elder Scrolls ArenaESO is bringing its first new class since the Necromancer launched with ESO: Elsweyr, the Arcanist.
