Something is up in the West Weald, now that the Gold Road Chapter is live in The Elder Scrolls Online. The new content is out for PC/Mac along with Update 42 for the base game.

After months of previews, hints, preparation, reveals, and deep dives, including at the 10th anniversary event kickoff in Amsterdam, Gold Road is here (with console coming June 16th). If you’ve been paying attention to the various details, maybe even played the prologue, then you know the West Weald awaits, the Daedric Prince Ithelia has awakened, and her followers are causing some chaos with their plans. Explore the new zone, a new Trial, new public dungeons, and Colovian Imperial culture. All this, and you’ll get to look into the odd happenings about, including unknown Daedra, and the emergence of the overgrown Dawnwood and Wood Elves that accompany it.

The Scribing system lets you unlock a series of effects and bonuses that you combine in ways that will expand build variety. To get started, when you own the new chapter, you can start describing questline in order to learn the process, unlock your first options, (and even a new mount).

While much attention has been paid to the new Chapter, for good reason, Update 42 is also here for PC and Mac. This patch is focused on a number of improvements, including mail system overhauls with quality of life improvements including a “take all” button to easily claim mail attachments, a new “delete after claim”  option, inventory space indicator, and clearer sorting. In order to improve server performance, many system mail will now expire faster.

The update also impacts the way characters near you are displayed. For NPCs and other players nearest to you, the game will render them at high resolution, with resolution dropping as they get further away. Update 41’s change to minimum specs means that the distance at which resolution will start dropping has been increased. A new toggle on PC also lets you pre-set resolution actions.

Gold Road and Update 42 both get new achievements, a few balance changes, and some fixes. With the addition of the new chapter, this also means the 10-year achievement is now unlockable
