Fntastic, which attempted a comeback after The Day Before flamed out at launch, has buried its Escape Factory Kickstarter campaign and is trying again with a new game in the works, an “action-horror prop hunt game called ITEMS!”.

The company released a new statement over on X saying that they will “temporarily suspend” work on Escape Factory, their attempted comeback title, which got a demo and a Kickstarter campaign last month. The crowdfunding campaign wasn’t going to land anywhere near its goal, sitting at $2,388 USD out of an over $15k goal when it was canceled. If you were someone cheering for a comeback, they’re not done just yet.

No, their pivot is a new prop hunt game, ITEMS, is what they’ll spend their time on. This makes some sense, since they had some success with Prop Night and say they’ve had requests for something new like this. Once that also has a playable demo, they're looking at the possibility of another Kickstarter campaign. Or “other options for release”. In addition to working on ITEMS, they’re also going to work on and release mobile games in parallel to support the development process.

They also still have some plans laid out for 2024-2025 along with promises to do better. While the company acknowledged when they attempted a comeback last month that they had to regain trust after what happened with The Day Before, it seems like that didn’t happen in their latest effort. Whether a return to a genre they’ve had success with will lay the groundwork for Fntastic 2.0 any better remains to be seen.
