The Daily Quest - What's in a Name?

The Daily Quest - What's in a Name?

Names... they're kind of a big deal. Especially in MMOs where they can often telegraph what kind of player you are. Know those guys who call themselves Goku this or Drizzt that? Probably not taking the game as seriously as Lord Reginald Wellingsworth the 3rd. But how much does your character's name matter to you?

I'm reminded of my Guild Wars 2 characters, who all have the surname "Murphy". Yeah, real original, I know. But it works because I can picture characters in that world having a clan name, and it helps my guild know each and every one of my alts by their last name.

In games that don't have a surname though, I tend towards one or two names: Begud, Orialas, Thryston, or Goob. The names all go towards one type of character or another, and while I don't roleplay, in my head there's a place and personality behind each one.

What about you though? Do you just pick the "random" button and hope for the best? Do you care if the players around you have nonsensical or canonical sounding names?  When in doubt, there's always Gamenaminator.com.

This is your quest for today. Press accept.
