The Daily Quest - Stylized or Realistic?

One of the ongoing debates in the games space these days centers around the artistic vision of the developers and is one that has been ongoing for the past ten years or so. The conversation centers around the graphical representation of the world around the player, stylized versus realistic.

Proponents of the stylized graphic style often point to the fact that worlds created this way stand up better over the long haul as there is no comparison to the real world. One of the most prominently mentioned games sporting stylized graphics is Blizzard's World of Warcraft or, in more modern incarnations, Wildstar or the forthcoming Crowfall.

On the other hand, those supporting realistic graphics long for a world that somehow feels real and visceral and, in a sense, possible even with the addition of magic and otherworldly creatures. The color palettes are more along the lines seen in the great outdoors of the real world as opposed to the bright colors of more stylized games. A good example of a game with realistic graphics would be Elder Scrolls Online.

So where do you fall on the Stylized Versus Realistic spectrum? Let us know in the comments!
