The Culling 2 Cancelled After Just Over a Week, Original Brought Back to 'Day One'

Xaviant Games has made a startling announcement: The Culling 2, that launched just eight days ago, has been cancelled after a horrific debut netting tons of negative reviews and with a lackluster population. As a result, the team has cancelled the game and taken the much more popular The Culling (the original game) back to "day one" -- that time before players felt developers abandoned the game for the now-defunct second version.

Director of Operations Josh Van Veld took to the airwaves with the "State of the Game" letter to inform both games' communities of the cancellation and the rollback of The Culling.

"I think most of you know that last week we launched The Culling 2, and that launch was not successful. It's been difficult for us to wrap our heads around the situation. It's been a lot to take in, but we've been having a lot of discussions and one thing that has emerged very clearly for us is that The Culling 2 was not a game that you asked for, and it's not a game that you expect as a worthy successor to The Culling." Van Veld said.

Players who purchased the game from Microsoft, Sony or Valve will be receiving refunds now that the game has been cancelled.

"I also want to apologize because when we got to the end of our Early Access run, you weren't happy with the state of the game. We weren't happy with our relationship with the community. We weren't happy with how you felt about the game. We weren't happy with the game ourselves. But we didn't see a path forward, so we turned it off and moved onto something else, and in retrospect, that was a mistake." Van Veld said about The Culling.

The Day One build is The Culling as it was the day it launched into Early Access and it will be on test servers in the near future. The team will be working closely with the community to bring it to a game they can all be proud to play.
