The Alldocube X Tablet: Super AMOLED Gaming Goes Budget

This isn’t typically in our wheelhouse but is so cool we felt the need to share. The Alldocube X has recently completed its crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo raising more than 1100% of its funding goal and coming in at $347,898. That’s a lot of money for a tablet you’ve probably never heard of before, so there’s got to be something special here, right? That’s what we figured, so we decided to dig and see if it offered anything that gamers might be interested.

We won’t bury the lede: high-performance specs, Super AMOLED screen, $239. By spec and screen, it is comparable to the much, much more expensive Galaxy Tab S4. Whether you’re using it for mobile MMOs or as a second screen for when you’re grinding out levels, if you’re in the market for a tablet, the Alldocube X is definitely one you should be looking at.

Breaking it down a little further, this shiny new device features a 10.1” screen with a 2K, 2600x1600 resolution screen with a pixel density of 288 PPI. The Tab S4 is almost identical at 287 PPI.

Their use of a Super AMOLED screen is also incredible, and rare, in the budget tablet world. Super AMOLEDs are well-known for vibrant colors and the best blacks. They quote the DCI-P3 color gamut achieving 100% coverage up from the 86% found on many LCD screens. It’s also able to support HDR content, which should look great on that 10.1” screen.

When it comes to sound, Alldocube has equipped the X with a pair of front-facing Hi-Fi speakers powered by an AKM4376A chip. This chip is capable of better-than-CD sound at a 32-bit/192kHz sampling rate.

Under the hood, its running a MediaTek MT8176 SoC. This six-core CPU can clock all the way up to 2.1GHz (which, anecdotally, is faster than most netbooks) and opens the door to WiFi a/b/g/n/ac connectivity. It’s graphics processing is powered by the PowerVR GX6250, which is enough for modern mobile games whether they’re single-player or MMO and should have enough power to drive the upcoming streaming programs from companies like Microsoft. The base unit also ships with 4GB of flash memory and 64GB of storage expandable via microSD.

Other features include 8MP front and rear facing cameras, 4K playback (downscaled on device) and recording, a fingerprint sensor, and a thin, lightweight design at only 6.9mm thick and 500g in weight.

If you’re anything like me, you set up a tablet next to your PC to enjoy Netflix or Reddit while gaming. In the evening, I play a game or two or prop it up on my bedside table before falling asleep for the night. Coming from a standard LCD screen, this Alldocube X presents a great upgrade. The Samsung Tab S4 might have a few advantages in specs, but for the savings there’s simply no question that this is a compelling deal as a second screen at your gaming PC or to catch a few games when you’re on the go.

Read more about it at the IndieGoGo page.
