Warframe developer Digital Extremes is hosting its massive TennoCon 2024 in Canada this weekend, showcasing the future of the multiplayer shooter. Warframe's next major update, Warframe 1999, is slated to release later this year. However, players can get a glimpse of the future next month with a new prologue quest.
Warframe 1999 was first revealed during TennoCon 2023, taking players back to Earth 1999 to search for Dr. Entrati, all while teaming up with six Protoframes along the way. Warframe 1999 will bring with it a new romance system with these Protoframes, voiced by some incredible A-List gaming talent, including Amelia Tyler from Baldur's Gate 3, Ben Starr, who voiced Clive in Final Fantasy XVI, and more.
Via today's press release:
"Develop relationships and connect with a party of six Protoframes with a retro instant messenger system, including notable new voices like Amelia Tyler (Baldur’s Gate 3), Kevin Afghani (Super Mario Bros. Wonder), Melissa Medina (Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail), Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge (Forza Horizon 5), Alpha Takahashi(Cyberpunk 2077), and Ben Starr (Final Fantasy XVI)."
A new Warframe is also coming with Warframe 1999, CYTE-09. The "reckless and friendless fortune hunter," the new Frame will be a sharpshooter role to any party traversing back to 1999. The Warframe will slot alongside new weapons and mounts coming to Warframe 1999, including the new bullet-dodging Atomicyle, and weapons that feel inspired by real-world Earth.
Warframe 1999 Prologue: The Lotus Eaters
While Warframe 1999 doesn't kick off until Winter 2024, the MMO is bringing a prologue quest to give players a glimpse of what is to come. The Lotus Eaters will launch in August on all platforms. Picking up after the last year's Whispers in the Walls, the developers are setting players up for what's to come when Arthur heads back to 1999 later this year.
The Lotus Eaters will launch alongside next month's Prime Warframe, Sevagoth Prime, and will come with all the Prime trappings including exclusive weapons, and accessories. Today, however, Ember and Rhino Heirloom Skins were also announced, with Ember available starting today, while Rhino kicks off next year.
Warframe 1999 is also getting an anime treatment, with Digital Extremes teaming up with The Line to put together an anime short pulling the veil back on Warframe 1999's world. No date was given but fans should expect that later this year.
Earlier today, Digital Extremes hosted its first Soulframe Devstream, showcasing more of the upcoming RPG from the Warframe studio. You can check out our live blog here.
