The Chronicles of Elyria KickStarter page has been updated with a cool new article that lays out three totally separate and individual ways that players will be able to experience Elyria prior to the full release of the MMO which has about eighteen months of development left.
First, and probably close to or even before the release of the pre-alpha, players will be able to play through an offline single player version and features test called Prologue: The Awakening. To date, the team has revealed twenty-two feature areas for players to check out that includes the UI, NPC interaction, combat, skills & crafting and several others.
Second, when the CoE site is updated to v3.0, a new web portal will open up to let players take part in Dance of Dynasties that takes place about ninety Elyrian years before the timeline to be found in the full MMO. According to the post, Dance of Dynasties will allow players to "form and change alliances, declare war, fight over resources and invest in research".
Lastly, there is ElyriaMUD, a way to show off the "back-end mechanics" of the game in a text-based RPG.
What does this mean for the players? It means that upon launch of ElyriaMUD, players will be able to create characters and walk around in the world, role-playing and interacting with their fellow players while helping us test the game mechanics. And to keep life super exciting, events that happen in Kingdoms of Elyria will be mirrored in ElyriaMUD and vice-versa! If a Kingdom in KoE declares war on your kingdom, you can be sure the NPCs in ElyriaMUD will be talking about it. And if you happen to kill a noble while in ElyriaMUD, it’ll be reflected in the dance of dynasties!
You can read more about each of these on the Chronicles of Elyria KickStarter page.
