Tarisland Devs Answer Community Questions, Address P2W, Balance, and Future Direction

The Tarisland team continues to reveal some of the steps they are taking to course correct following extensive player feedback during closed beta. The latest update comes in the form of a YouTube video, where the devs responded to community questions over alleged pay to win, balance, PvE challenges, crafting, and more.

When it comes to Tarisland’s devs, they have been working to announce their major plans to overhaul the game to make it more fun and balanced. Yet, concerns for a game that the team had touted as not pay to win definitely got some pay to win accusations in beta. With the cash shop open during the beta and some other questionable items that were tradable, they address some of those issues and how they’re moving ahead.

One of the first questions deals with the Inscribed Stone system, which was designed to let players upgrade quickly, but had significant flaws. They admit that these flaws resulted in people being able to buy large quantities of materials, leading to an unintended and serious imbalance. Similarly, CBT Benefit Cards were also included as a tradable element but they are being discontinued. In fact, they’re looking to make changes to the gold system overall to help make things fairer.

Crafting gets a nod here too, as the team has already said they’re looking to make armor sets PvE (raid drops) only, and to keep crafted equipment at the same quality as dungeon drops. This will also mean more resources and work to balance gear.  Making armor sets PVE exclusives should help eliminate some of the disparities and to help improve access and make people want to participate in raiding.

Participation in PvE, like dungeons, and in PvP are also mentioned in their goals, with schedules and matchmaking also slated for improvement. There were too few PvP opportunities, so expect more there too.

Some of the other changes discussed include work to balance classes and professions, with feedback also having focused somewhat on a lack of class diversity. The team has already agreed to drop gendered class gating, and they are continuing to work on optimizing class design and build options.

It does seem like the Tarisland team is listening and taking the feedback into account when announcing these updates and work to make things both fairer and more fun, but of course, we’ll only know how well it worked when the game gets all these tweaks.
