Star Wars: The Old Republic officially launched on December 20, 2011. To mark the 10th anniversary, Project Director Keith Kanneg shared thoughts on the decade of SWTOR and what’s ahead, both coming with and beyond Legacy of the Sith.

During the past 10 years, the game has had more than 300 patches and Legacy of the Sith is the 8th expansion.  Through the years, there have been ups and downs but SWTOR has seen much improvement and maintained a community that still loves coming back to it. In fact, it even got our most improved award recently.

While the pandemic also took its toll on development, the team is cautiously setting expectations for an upcoming in-person return to events with Star Wars celebration in May 2022. In game, The 10th anniversary is being marked and celebrated with a year-long event. this event will bring back all previous anniversary rewards and new rewards coming when update 7.0 hits along with Legacy of the Sith.  But what might be exciting is the preview of what they are looking towards in the future: content and modernization.

After the new update arrives, there will be an R-4 Anomaly Operation and a new daily area  coming that will be set in a new area of Manaan. The team is also planning to continue story updates through multiple patches throughout the year, and new content through PvE, PvP, and instances.

“After the dramatic conclusion of 7.0 on Elom, you’ll continue to unravel the mysteries of Darth Nul, join the erupting civil war among the Mandalorian clans, and discover the true objective Darth Malgus is pursuing. All the while working alongside old friends like Kira, Scourge, Akaavi, and Torian, as well as some new faces you’ll meet for the first time in 7.0. You’ll also explore new locations (some are new to SWTOR, others are entirely new creations!) and perhaps even gain an opportunity to return to where your character’s journey first began so long ago…”

On the modernization side are some of the already previewed changes like itemization changes, removing RNG in gearing, all new character creation experience, and both Loadouts and Combat Styles. These are another part of what's to come both soon and through continued development.

For the full 10th anniversary look back and what’s ahead, head over to Star Wars: The Old Republic.
