Sunderfolk is an upcoming fantasy couch co-op tactical adventure from Secret Door, a studio under Mike Morhaime’s Dreamhaven.

The game, which is set for release on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in 2025, features shared-screen co-op for up to four players. The team drew inspiration from Fantasy games and even tabletop games, to inspire the mechanics requiring creativity, teamwork, and problem solving. You start in the village of Arden,  and your adventuring party goes on a quest throughout the Sunderlands. That's how things start, but  with the narrative, trouble is on the way and you'll have to  work to save your hometown village.

It’s an adventurer’s quest, so gather your party. There are six classes to choose from– arcanist, bard, berserker, pyromancer, ranger, and rogue– with their own roles and passives that you can customize with gear, skills, and more to  create your adventuring party. You’ll battle together, strategize to collaborate and defeat enemies, and make it through the world from mines to labyrinths.

Uncover secrets and work to stop the dark forces threatening Arden in what the team is describing as “a streamlined alternative to the traditional tabletop-gaming experience”.

Combat is card-based, so you'll have to strategize based on your deck, your position and turn order, and use your skill cards to both be effective in battle and to complement your party. just like with tabletop adventures, you'll have to learn to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the hero classes as well as the enemies you're fighting.

You'll be able to use your phone or tablet as a controller to take actions, manage your inventory, interact with characters, and other gameplay actions.  the streamlined setup does it require rulebooks or materials, this is bringing a table top like experience to a group where you can just jump in and play.

Prepare to meet new characters as you explore, creatures, and of course to explore. The village of Arden serves as your hub, and  the village itself will grow in depth with new shops, services, and other changes as you progress through your journey.

Secret Door’s Chris Sigaty says, in a press release, “As developers we also like to look at what inspires us and think about how to make those types of experiences easier to get into, so that more people can enjoy them as much as we do”.  They’re deliberately drawing from tabletop to make that experience a more accessible one, and share with both fans of tabletop gaming and those who’ve never sat around a table and gone on a collaborative adventure.
