Summon a Boss Encounter, Get Guaranteed Legendaries in New World's Luck of the Bones Event

New World is getting an event, Luck of the Bones, starting next week on August 16th. The event promises “better than usual” rewards for taking part and defeating the spawns in the world.

Loot collector Rafflebones is the key to the event, and things will work like this. You'll have to find interdimensional portals that are opening all around Aeternum. The portals will work as world events, where you and others nearby can summon Rafflebones to challenge him for his loot. Mysterious portals will be anywhere, and you'll have to interact with them in order to summon the loot collector. The encounters are timed, because if you don't defeat him within a certain period, he'll flee the dimension and you'll have to find another portal to take him on again.

He will be appearing throughout Aeternum at different points, and you can defeat him for loot up to three times a day, with the daily reset happening at 5 AM local time. As long as you deal a minimum amount of damage during any encounter with him, you can earn some rewards. Taking him on and defeating him will get you these guaranteed goodies:

  • 1 Legendary PvE Fortune Hunter item
  • 1 Legendary PvP Fortune Hunter Item
  • 1 Mutation Boss named item
  • 1 named item
  • 500 Umbral Shards
  • 1 Obsidian Gypsum

While other events have let you defeat these types of bosses more than a set limit of times for lower-tier rewards, the Luck of the Bones event doesn’t have this in its announcement. It seems that the three-time cap is a hard limit, but the rewards are definitely of a higher caliber than some of the other world boss loot.

The New World team has explained their efforts to make event rewards feel more useful and to offer guaranteed rewards, especially if they’re Legendary. This event seems like another one of those opportunities.

Luck of the Bones will run from August 16-29th.
