In just three hours, streamer LMGD hit level 85 in World of Warcraft Cataclysm Classic before anyone else, utilizing game-breaking features that got nerfed as they were doing them.
According to Games Radar, the race began on a beach that LMGD just so happened to spot as the expansion began, where he soon realized these mobs were hyper-spawning like mad. Burning them down as fast as he could, he noticed that they dropped a lot of experience points, so he farmed there – until Blizzard seemingly provided a hotfix and they no longer gave the streamer any XP when killed.
Not to be defeated, LMGD made his way to the Twilight Highlands, where they exploited the system again with a PvP event that gives a buff of 1000 spell power and 400 attack power once completed. From there, he utilized party member buffs, like Druid Thorns, and had a Mage and Warlock spamming AoE attacks at the mobs nearby. This lead to about 13 million experience per hour for LMGD as he was doing enough DPS to get the full amount of XP per kill.
But, yet again, Blizzard hotfixed these mobs midway through their farm, meaning they needed to find another exploit, and fast, in order to be the world's first level 85 (in Cataclysm Classic). At this point, LMGD was already level 84, so there wasn’t too much further to go. They then found yet another exploit within another PvP event, and enemies spawned quickly and gave a massive amount of XP. Once more, it seemed Blizzard had fixed this exploit rather quickly, and the XP soon disappeared. This was when they decided to just head to Deepholm and do the experience grind like everyone else since they were dangerously close to level cap.
How did this race begin in the first place and why was it so important to LMGD to hit cap before anyone else? Two yeas ago, when Wrath of the Lich King Classic dropped, LMGD lost world first due to the exploit they had been using being hotfixed as they were doing it, and not to be defeated again, the group was determined to win back their title for being the world first max level characters in the latest expansion.
This goes to show that World of Warcraft players can hold a grudge for years, and won’t allow one defeat to take away the next big win.
World of Warcraft Cataclysm Classic was released on May 20th, and there were several people that made a point to get to level 85 quick, fast, and in a hurry. This is something I witnessed first-hand on my own realm, as the first level 85 on Atiesh was years ahead of everyone else in a matter of hours.
