Storybricks Closing Down

A Tweet from the Storybricks team just cropped up on Twitter that indicates that the company is closing its doors. This comes quickly after last week's announcement by Daybreak Game Studio that it had severed ties with Storybricks for EverQuest Next.

The post linked in the Tweet indicates that the team had been under pressure and at least a pair of members had moved on to other projects, other founding members having already secured positions in the industry. The decision, the letter states, by DGS to break ties did not play a part in the decision to close shop.

The team behind Storybricks tried to find a "home" for the tech but was unable to do so and even at one point tried to buy out the entire division of Sony Online Entertainment and the EverQuest franchise. A deal could not be reached with Sony Japan and the deal fell through as a result.

Make no mistake the company needed cuts badly, and we would have cut and cut deeply. Possibly as deep as Columbus Nova did but maybe we would have cut more senior management and less game developers instead. It was our intention to try to acquire the 38 Studios assets and made them available to players in EQN. Moreover we would have probably changed the server infrastructure allowing people to run their own servers. It would not have been a very canonical EverQuest but we would have done the best to service our customers with the limited budget of an independent studio who wanted to punch above its weight.
