Frost Giant’s RTS Stormgate is now live in free to play Early Access, following a period of access for backers. The game went live this morning at 10:00 a.m. Pacific/ 1:00 p.m. Eastern.
Recently, the team shared a blog about the road ahead for the game’s campaign, working to set expectations for the free to play launch and to share what they’re working on, from new updates to responding to feedback. The build that is live today is the start, they say. This is the foundation that they're releasing to the world, and they'll continue flushing out and polishing the campaign over time, making it more polished and feature rich.
Feedback about the game’s art style and visuals have been somewhat mixed, but as Game Director Tim Campbell says, they have heard the feedback and promise that, on the road to 1.0, they will continue working to improve alongside making new content for Stormgate. While they have already begun working on some art improvements, most of the changes will start being visible as they get closer to 1.0. This will include lighting, textures, UI changes, environments, in a mix of improvements and complete overhauls.
Speaking of improvements, they continue to improve some of the quality of the campaign cutscenes, including cinematic characters. “We started out using our gameplay models just to get the story hashed out–including in our cutscenes”, they acknowledge, citing some of the exaggerated characteristics, and note improvements are already in the works.
As far as Stormgate’s storyline, the team asks for patience, as “many Hero’s Journeys often look similar” to start, and The characters' story arcs are far from complete. Other characters will also be getting additional development to flesh them out, beginning with Amara.
While everyone can now access the new RTS, it is Early Access, so keep that in mind as you get your strategy fix.
