Stormforge blends open-world survival crafting with RPG elements and inspiration from the Stormlight Archives and Dungeons & Dragons. The game got two new teasers at IGN Live and the PC Gaming Show, setting the game up for a release next year.
Set in a world called Sorana, Stormforge features a typical series of survival mechanics where you have to find and acquire resources, learn to craft, build a base, and continue to adventure. However, one of the major things you'll have to survive are the magical storms that are consistently ravaging the world. The art style takes inspiration from Moebius, Miyazaki. The world itself is procedurally generated and those magical storms affect all aspects of these survival crafting experience.
In Stormforge, the storms are a constant threat, but they are also one of the ways in which you obtain certain resources. What this creates are risk versus reward situations, something that developer Roboto Games intends to be something special about their game. Adding to the survival crafting mechanics, with that graphic novel inspired style, they're incorporating a number of RPG elements, that also allow you to craft your gear and equipment, and you can utilize powers that offer a number of advantages for weapons or skills,
You can play solo or with up to 8-player co-op. Those RPG elements and the way they open up crafting, skill, and gear options are part of what opens things up to multiplayer, according to the team.
With the survival crafting genre, the emphasis is on player creation and player-driven worlds, and the team is already promising integrated modding tools to really make the experience your own.
Roboto Games is planning to hold playtests this year ahead of their planned 2025 launch. The team has opened signups for consideration over at the Stormforge site.
