Stars Reach Kickstarter Reward Tiers Announced, Including Early Access

With a week left until its official Kickstarter launches, the Stars Reach team at Playable Worlds is previewing the reward tiers available for those who back the game.

The science fiction “shardless sandbox MMORPG” has been in development for five years, with investor funding and players already joining in playtests and building out communities. However, Kickstarter is a common step as an intersection of marketing and “proof of concept” for more investors and to rally up community support.

Once the Stars Reach Kickstart starts, there'll be multiple “tiers” within each of these major sections, likely meaning there’ll be one primary reward.

The first tier is the Citizen Tier, which the team calls an “introduction tier” that lets anyone support the Stars Reach and get nifty rewards down the road, should they actually join the game. Keep in mind that these are Kickstarter rewards, and it’s still a common practice for there to be lower tiers that are more for support and to get updates and nifty gifts, instead of jumping right to giving the game away.

Next is the Scout Tier, which, from what it sounds like, is the first set of tiers that guarantees supporters can join Early Access, and these supporters will have their name in the credits. Plus, players at higher levels of Scout Tier get “unique outfit options, beginner gear that will give you a head start during the early access phase, and a unique pet emote”.

Above that is the Reacher Tier, which has a main perk of allowing players to send out four transferable invites. Other starter sets are available, including a “Grave Mesh which will grant you the power of flight right away!”

The final tier is the obligatory Kickstarter personal/intimate set of rewards the Titan Tier.

“Some of the perks to be expected here include invitations to the Stars Reach Launch Party, direction on your very own planet, immortalization in the Hall of Heroes, and even a personal 1:1 with Raph Koster himself,” the devs say. “If you’ve ever wanted to meet and collaborate with the developers on a video game, this is your chance!”

For now, we don’t actually have prices on each tier and its sub-tiers. However, the Stars Reach devs do say there’ll be “early bird” pricing, so the best way to get the cheapest price for certain tiers will be to keep an eye out for the Kickstarter’s launch, which presently has an official preview page and will let players be notified on launch.

Even before this Kickstarter, we've been seeing plenty of promising updates from Playable Worlds, including thoughtful overviews of mining systems within the worlds and its own playtests. In fact, one of our editors is already quite sold on this campaign based on the team's discussion of this game's market and progress.
